Always Learning

“Never stop learning, because life never stops teaching.”

I’m taking this quote to heart this week as I head to Chicago for a continuing education event entitled “Studio Owner University”.  This event is put on by More Than Just Great Dancing, an international licensing organization that The Pointe School of Dance belongs to.  More Than Just Great Dancing is a network of dance studios who aspire to the highest standards in quality dance curriculum, teacher training, management practices, and community involvement.  As a new studio owner, I’m so thankful to be a part of a community of like-minded dance studio owners who truly strive to create the best environment and education for their dance studios.  These studio owners share my passion for dance education for kids – for providing a safe, healthy, and positive atmosphere for students to learn technical skills, build amazing friendships, and grow in artistry and expressive emotion.

I’m headed to Chicago this week to meet with a group of these studio owners and take classes in the best business practices for a dance studio.  These classes will focus on leadership and administration so I can do the behind the scenes work to make our dance classes and performances happen in the best way possible.  I’m excited to step back, evaluate the systems we have in place, and work on creating the best plans, policies, and processes to make our studio the best it can be.

It’s important for anyone in any profession to keep learning – in continuing ed classes, reading industry publications, networking or working with others in the same industry – and I’m so thankful for the opportunity to head to a live event to meet other studio owners and take some business classes specific to the dance studio industry.  This is the first of what I’m sure will be many similar events that I’ll attend to keep learning and growing!

I’ll miss everyone at The Pointe while I’m gone – but can’t wait to learn more about how to continue making our studio home better and better, so we can reach more students with the power of a positive dance education and continue to give the best experience to every single student and family that comes through our doors.

See you next week!
