Class of 2022 Senior Feature – Averie Price

It’s hard to believe that it’s time to start the countdown towards our graduating senior’s “lasts” – their graduations and final recital will be here before we know it.  On the blog today: continuing this year’s Senior Features with a little bit more about the dancers you’ll see performing in the Senior Dance and a Senior Solo at recital.  We love celebrating our graduating seniors!

Senior Year at The Pointe

For many dancers, dancing all the way through their senior year is a big goal and a major accomplishment – many of our graduating seniors started dancing with us when they were in preschool!  We are beyond grateful for the opportunity to be a part of their lives for so long and to get to watch them grow up into confident, thoughtful, and hard-working young adults.

Senior year is a special one – many of our seniors take classes and serve as Junior Faculty at The Pointe – assisting in classes with younger students and even helping with some competition practices over studio breaks.  Seniors are all featured on canvases that we’ll print and put up later this fall in the hallway that will be graduation gifts for them showcasing their well-earned skill and artistry in dance.

You’ll see our seniors dance with Miss Vanessa in a group senior dance choreographed by the dancers at the recital, and each senior will have the opportunity to perform a solo of their choice.  Giving these dancers an opportunity to showcase their performance skills and experiment with choreography is one of our favorite studio traditions.

Senior Feature: Averie Price

Averie’s Dance Bio

Averie has been dancing at The Pointe for 4 years throughout her high school career! She has also been a member of Company, our competitive program, for three years. Averie also dances on the North Linn Dance Team and served as Co-Captain this year! You’ll see Averie in Ballet 6, Advanced Contemporary, and Advanced Acro at recital – plus our Company production, two company groups, and her senior solo. Averie graduated at the top of her class from North Linn High School, and will continue dancing and competing next year on the Northwestern College Dance Team!

“Averie is an amazing performer and a gifted dancer. She is not only talented, but she truly puts in the time, effort, and work to meet her potential. Averie comes to class and rehearsal hungry to learn and improve, and she brings others up with her. She is a kind teammate and classmate, an excellent student, and lights up the stage when she performs. I have LOVED getting to know and work with Averie and know she will go far in everything she chooses to pursue after high school!”

In Her Own Words…

1. How long have you been dancing?

I have been dancing for nine years. I danced at the studio in my hometown for 6 years and then came to the Pointe when I was a freshman in high school. I have been a part of the studio for four years now and this is my third year doing company. I have also been on my high school’s dance team for four years.

2. What is your favorite dance that you have performed?

“Vienna”, Small Group Contemporary for Company last year by Miss Laura

3. Favorite dance memory?

My favorite dance memory would have to be getting Chick-Fil-A and Orange Leaf in between or after classes.

4. Favorite genre of dance?

My favorite genre would have to be contemporary because I love the freeness of the movements and getting to express myself in many different ways.

5. Finish this sentence: I love dancing because…

it has always been something that has brought a smile to my face. Even on the roughest of days, I can go to dance and know that it will bring me joy.

6. What are you looking forward to the most in finishing out your senior year in dance?

I am most looking forward to getting to go through competition season alongside all of my friends.

7. Plans after High School?

I will be attending Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. Here I will be obtaining a degree in Elementary Education. I will also be dancing on scholarship for the Northwestern Dance Team.

8. Advice for younger dancers?

To take it all in and cherish every single moment. These people will become your best friends and the bonds you make will last a lifetime.
