March 2019 Newsletter

Message from Miss Vanessa:

March is here and we are so excited for the temperatures to get a little bit warmer and for us to get closer to Recital!  Dancers are working so hard in their classes preparing their routines for recital and we absolutely can’t wait.  Inside this newsletter are details for more recital information – dress rehearsal schedules, Father Daughter Dance details, and more are out!  March and April are also the biggest months for our competitive dancers – we will compete at 4 competitions in these two months!  Many of our awesome teaching assistants are competitive dancers and their hard work all year has prepared them for this season – we love competition season so much!  If your dancer thinks that dance might be their sport, asking a teaching assistant or instructor at the studio about our competitive or performing groups is a great idea.  There are opportunities for performing groups for dancers ages 6+ – with community performance and competitive options.  Our meetings on April 6 are also a great opportunity for families and dancers thinking about auditioning to come see what our programs are all about.  🙂

We are SO thankful for each and every dancer and family that comes to the studio for class each week – we love what we do because of who we get to do this dance life with.  We couldn’t ask for a better community.

More Recital Details are Online Now!

Our Photo Week and Dress Rehearsal schedules, Father-Daughter dance information, and the show assignments and show orders are all online and accessible on our dedicated Recital 2019 page:

With all of the days schools missed due to the weather this winter, we have modified our dress rehearsal schedules to try and work with the fact that kids will still be in school that week (we’ve never seen this before!).  To accommodate every class, fit in finale rehearsals, and not start before families could get downtown and not end too late in the evening, we have shortened the stage time for each routine.  The schedule is a little odd (we’ve got 6 minute slots on stage) and very detailed to help us accommodate these out-of-the-ordinary scheduling limitations.  Parents, please take a look so you can plan for dress rehearsal week.  We will have lots of helpers ready at dress rehearsal in case someone in the first few dances needs a little help with getting hair or makeup ready after school and before rehearsal.  Please also note the Finale rehearsal times – every dancer in the show will be included in the Finale and needs to be at the rehearsal to know where to line up and when to come onstage for their final bows.

Class Recommendations & Evaluations Are Coming Up Soon!

Dancers in Graded Technique, Beginning Classes, and Specialty Classes will have their class recommendations and evaluations sent home over spring break.  We are using a new system that will deliver the recommendations in an email to the account used to register for classes.  We are finalizing details for our 2019-2020 class season and will be sending home early registration options shortly after spring break so our current students will have the ability to register before we open registration to the public so you can get in the classes that are the best for your schedule.

Reminders – Attendance, Makeup Classes, and Weather-Related Cancellations

Dancers with excellent attendance progress faster through the curriculum and perform more confidently throughout the season.  We know sometimes illnesses or conflicts come up, and have a generous makeup policy.  If your dancer needs to miss their class, we appreciate a heads up (email is best) so our teachers can plan accordingly if they have several dancers out one week for a school concert and dancers are invited to make up any class they miss by simply attending another class at the same level or one level below theirs within two weeks of the absence.  There’s no need to ask the office beforehand – just come to the class and let the instructor know you’re there for a makeup ?  While it’s ideal to make up a ballet class missed with a ballet class, any genre the dancer participates in will work for make up classes.

We will make our decision about morning classes by 8 AM and afternoon/evening classes by 2 PM.  If we need to cancel, we will let families know by emailing the classes on that day and posting in our private Facebook group (if you haven’t joined yet, please click here to request membership).  If we must cancel a class due to weather, we do not schedule additional makeups – we encourage families to attend an alternate class as a makeup.  If it is snowy and we don’t cancel, we don’t want to clutter up your email – classes are on as planned unless you hear from us by 8 AM for morning classes and 2 PM for afternoon and evening classes.
