Let’s ROCK Recital: Picture Week

Picture Week is coming up at The Pointe – and we are so excited!

We will set up the photo studio in Studio A, and then dancers will get a quick run-through of their dances in Studio C.  Picture week and studio dress rehearsals May 23-27 are in the place of regular classes.  Click here for the schedule!

To make pictures a success, please read the following quick tips:

1 – Plan for the entire ensemble – a dance photo requires the correct costume, tights, dance shoes, and any accessories.  Please help your dancer double check that they have everything they need!  To double check the tights and shoes required for your classes, click here.  Make sure tights are clean, unstained, and have no holes or runs.  We should not be able to see any undergarments or extra straps – stop in the dance shop or office for help with the best undergarments for dance costumes ?

2 – Hair & Makeup Matter!  Company classes and Dance & Discover classes may wear their hair any way the dancer and family chooses.  ALL other classes must have their hair in a recital-ready bun (this is great practice)!  Recital buns have a part above the dancer’s left eye, all hair slicked back into a low bun (a couple inches above the nape of the neck).  Hair should be slicked back and secure in the bun (no bangs or whispies, please).  Dancers should wear some makeup, but do not need to go all out with stage makeup.  Please stick to neutral colors (red/pink lips, bronze/tan/gold eyeshadow, natural looking blush, black or brown mascara, etc).  See a video tutorial for recital hair and makeup here.

3 – One parent per dancer may come in for pictures and in-studio dress rehearsals if needed.  We are trying to limit the number of people in the studio as a part of our Safer Studio™ protocols this year, so please adhere to these guidelines.  Older dancers who can change costumes on their own still have drop-off and pick-up preferred.  Masks are required in the studio at all times, except for briefly while dancers are getting their photos taken.  See this behind-the-scenes video tour of our photo set up from Company photos last week.

4 – The plan: Arrive a few minutes before your scheduled time, and wait for your class to be called into Studio A.  We’ll take individual photos of every dancer, and a group photo of the whole class.  It is not required to purchase a recital photo, but we do expect dancers to be here for the studio dress rehearsal and in their group photos!  Please plan on changing out of your recital costumes for the trip home.  Remember, do not eat or drink (besides water) in your costume!

5 – We love getting extra photos and know parents want to take pictures of their dancer in costume.  Please take any extra pictures outside of Studio A, and do not take photos in the studio while we’re doing our professional shots – too many cameras at once is distracting for the dancers, and makes it difficult for us to get a great professional photo.  Our backdrops and professional lighting are set up to get great results when used together – and phone cameras don’t capture great images on our photography backdrops.  It’s a much better plan to get extra fun pictures taken during the in-studio dress rehearsal or outside before or after your time slot 🙂

As soon as pictures are ready, we’ll email you a link to an online gallery to view and order your favorite images!  Digital and print options are available, and prints ship directly to you!  No pre-order forms are needed.  See your photos and order your favorites online when they’re ready!

We are so excited to bring picture week to the studio (this is our first year having it here – thanks for your patience as we build this new setup!) and see all of your dancers in costume!
