September 2019 Newsletter

We love September because the start of our 2019-2020 school year season is here!  We are thrilled to welcome families back to the studio and to welcome new families to our community.  This newsletter is full of important information.  Please read this and keep it for your reference.

Message from Miss Vanessa:

Everything about back-to-school season is so exciting!  New classes, new teachers, new routines – we can’t wait to get into the groove of our school-year season at the studio.  We know that starting a new year is exciting but can also bring some uncertainty.  As we get started at the studio, know that the first week is always more crowded and crazier in the lobby and parking lot, that your dancer may take a few weeks to warm up to their new class, and that we’re here to help in any way possible. This newsletter is full of tips to help your dancer have the best start to their season and important information for parents.  We can’t wait to welcome you back (or welcome you for the first time) to our studio!

First Day FYI’s:

We’re going to make the first day of dance class a little different this year!  Parents, please remove your street shoes and step into the dance studio for the first 5 minutes of your child’s class.  Your instructor (and assistants) will introduce themselves and give any important announcements about their class.  Parents, we will have dancers (especially in Dance & Discover) enter first and make a circle together, then will call parents in for just a few minutes.

We will also be taking student photos in class (for our attendance-taking system) which may take a few minutes after the announcements from teachers.  Dancers only need their photo taken once – so dancers in multiple classes will only have their picture taken once during the first week.

In a normal week, we have plenty of parking available – the first week may be a full house and parking spots may fill up at busy times.  If our lot is full, after 5 PM our families can park in the lot for Advanced Therapy Specialists at 227 Northland Court (the parking lot directly west of our building).

Tips for First-Time Dancers

We hope your dancer is as excited as we are to start!  To help your first day go smoothly:

  • Arrive at the studio early!  Dancers who feel rushed are often stressed and less likely to have a great first day.
  • Talk to your dancer before you get started about what to expect. They’ll have a new teacher, new friends to meet, and they’ll be away from mom and dad during their dance class.
  • Make a fun before or after class routine! A snack after school before dance class, or a special dinner after, will help keep kids excited and ready to separate from their parent for their class.  Plan on one big hug, a high-five, or a special handshake as a signal that it’s time for the dancer to head into class.
  • Be patient.  Young kids take a while to warm up to a new routine.  It may take 3 or 4 classes for your dancer to really warm up and feel comfortable at the studio.  That is normal and totally OK!

Get Connected!

Meet our staff during the first week, introduce yourself to other parents, and dive into our awesome community!  We believe that we have the most amazing community of families in Cedar Rapids!
