September 2020 Newsletter

We love September.  Even though everything feels WAY different than normal with later school starts and hybrid or online learning this year, the crisp fall mornings bring us joy.  I hope that in the midst of the whirlwind and change, your family can find some moments to enjoy the fall.  We hope that regular weekly dance classes bring a piece of normal into the lives of our students and that the entire family feels the encouragement that comes from a great dance class.

Did you see our recent blog post about one dancer’s review of her first trip outside her home or car since March (spoiler alert – her first outing was to ballet class, and her experience with our Safer Studio™ guidelines in place assured her that she would be OK getting back to going some places safely).  Stories like this are why we do what we do.

Message from Miss Vanessa:

September is one of my absolute favorite months – I love fall weather, my birthday is in September, and getting back into a school year routine is so energizing.  With so much different this year, I’m encouraged by the things that remain.  The seasons still change on schedule, cinnamon scents (I’m not a pumpkin person, but more power to you pumpkin spice people!), and a switch from iced coffee in the afternoon to hot coffee all day long makes me feel a little relief.  This year, we will miss college football (go Hawks!) and marching band competitions (in my spare time, I coach the color guard at Linn-Mar and my husband is one of the high school band directors).  In the time where those events were scheduled, we’re going to make the best of the open time we suddenly find.  We’re planning little hikes, picnics, new recipes to try, and making the best of this season is our goal.  My hope for families who find their school year start greatly delayed or favorite activities canceled is that you are able to fill the newly opened time with meaningful events and memories you’ll cherish once the normal hustle and bustle returns.

Stay tuned – part of my normal-school-year rhythm is getting these monthly newsletters out on the first, then shining a spotlight on some Dancers of the Month and one of our Class of 2021 Graduating Seniors mid-month.

Makeup Classes: How to Make up an Absence

We know that sometimes, things come up and a dancer may need to miss their class.  No biggie!  Our technology makes it possible for you to easily communicate an absence in advance so our teachers know, and get makeup classes scheduled to take online at home at your convenience.

1 – Know you’ll be gone?  Log an absence through your parent portal.  Log in here: www.dancestudio-pro.com/online/thepointe with the same email and password used to register.  It’s quick and easy! (in fact, here’s a 40-second video that shows the process step by step! https://youtu.be/nstwEOf7e58)

2 – Email the front desk to get options for makeup classes.  We’ll reply with Zoom links to access your classes from home on a day and time that is convenient for you!

Of course, making up classes is not required – but many of our families really appreciate the opportunity to get absences made up.

Discover Dance Days – September 21 – October 3

We are gearing up for Discover Dance Days at the end of the month.  We’ve extended Discover Dance Days into two weeks due to lower class capacities.

Do you have a friend who wants to get involved in dance, or a sibling who might want to try dance after fall sports were canceled?  Discover Dance Days is a perfect opportunity to share your studio with your friends.

More information and online signup information will be out soon – stay tuned for an email with the details!
