Happy Friday, PSD Families! This Friday FYI is our primary method of communication to studio families – please save it for a time when you can read through it thoroughly and bookmark it for a reference!
June 6-8 – Dress Rehearsals (schedule here: www.thepointeschool.com/recital-2022)
June 9 – Online recital ticket orders close at 5 PM
June 10 – Performing Group Auditions – Sign ups due June 9th (information and links below)
June 12 – RECITAL 2022
June 20 – Summer Classes & Camps Start (are you signed up yet?!)
We are SO excited to be moving into the Paramount Theatre next week for Dress Rehearsals! We can’t wait to see all the hard work our dancers and teachers have been putting in come together up on stage!
To see the full Dress Rehearsal Schedule, you can find it on our Recital website: thepointeschool.com/recital-2022
Here are some quick tips for a great Dress Rehearsal experience:
- Arrive at the Paramount Theatre at your designated arrival time and have a seat in the audience. Dancers should be in the correct costume, hair, and makeup.
- We will announce when it is your dancer’s turn to go backstage – your instructor will meet you in the front of the audience.
- Feel free to take pictures and videos (with no flash) of your dancer on stage – this will not be allowed on Recital Day.
- All dancers in each show must participate in the Finale Rehearsal. Once your dancer has completed all of their rehearsals plus the Finale rehearsal, you are free to go.
Recital 2022 T-Shirts have arrived! Stop by the studio on Saturday from 9 AM-12 PM or by our Merchandise Table at the Paramount during Dress Rehearsals to pick up your T-Shirts. If you missed the online order, we have some extras available for purchase.
If you purchased any additional Recital merchandise, (drawstring bags/puppies/etc.) we are expecting those to arrive next week and will have them available for pickup at the Paramount during Dress Rehearsals and Recital. Flowers orders will be ready for pick up on Recital Day.
Recital Ticket Sales Began MONDAY, MAY 9 (for PSD families only)
Every PSD family received an email with a unique coupon code that can be used once for your 4 complimentary tickets included with your membership at The Pointe. Every family (regardless of the number of dancers or shows) gets 4 complimentary tickets (a small, less-than-$2-fee per ticket from the ticketing company does apply to reserve seats). We are SO excited to be back to a more “normal” recital season (last year, arranging tickets with social distancing was like the hardest game of tetris – EVER) and do not have a restriction on quantity of tickets purchased when sales open for our families.
We do give our families a week of priority ticket sales to help make sure every PSD family has the opportunity to get seats they prefer before we open ticket sales up to the public. Tickets are all reserved seats, and you can place your order for your entire party right away at once (for example, if you’re purchasing 10 tickets, you can use your coupon code for your 4 complimentary tickets and then pay for the additional 6 tickets). Sales opened for PSD families at 9 AM on Monday, May 9!
We are fortunate to have our recitals at the beautiful Paramount Theatre with over 1,600 seats! Order your tickets early to get your preference of seating. Sales open to the public on Monday, May 16 and our online ticket sales end Thursday, June 9th. The link to order tickets is open on the recital page: www.thepointeschool.com/recital-2022
We are THRILLED to announce that 2022 Recital Pictures are ready for you to order! Digital and print images are available, as well as some great package options. Here’s a video walking through how to purchase photos: https://www.loom.com/share/ef33d075dc1a41ceb2523a370826e430
And here is the gallery! https://onpointephotography.pixieset.com/recital2022photosallclassescompany/
All photos are in this gallery – use the navigation bar at the top of the gallery to select the class you’d like to view. You can mix and match images from different classes to fill your packages. We have all classes together so families can order from multiple classes and only need to pay for shipping once :). Images will print as they are displayed (minus the watermark) – if you see a photo you love, but need something adjusted (if it’s horizontal layout and you’d prefer vertical, for example) – please send us an email and we’ll see what we can do 🙂
We had a great, informal meeting about recital week – dress rehearsals and recitals – on Zoom this month. If you weren’t able to tune in live, the recording is available now! The meeting was about 30 minutes and we walked through what to expect at dress rehearsal and the day of recital. We recommend that all families read through the recital handbook (on the recital page, here: www.thepointeschool.com/recital-2022) before recital week to be prepared!

** To clarify the tights and shoes needed for each class: we have had some questions, so adding this note to clarify 🙂
If your class has an option for tights (usually that would be ballet – skin tone or ballet pink tights and shoes), tights and shoes need to match. Families may select tights and shoes that are a close match to the dancer’s skin tone OR ballet pink. Tights and shoes must match – not skin tone tights and pink ballet shoes (or vice versa). Here’s our Shades Guide that has ALL of the details. (this is also on the recital page).
On the recital page, find:
- Recital Handbook (everything you need to know in one packet)
- Grand Finale Details
- Dancer check-in and check-out procedures
- Show orders
- Quick Reference Guide – all recital event dates/times in ONE line for each class!
- Dress Rehearsal Schedule (June 6-8)
- Hair/Makeup Tutorial video
- Guide on shade options for shoes/tights
- Recital practice music
- Recital practice videos

We’ve added another easy method of communication to get relevant information directly to families – right on your phone!
- Click the links on your phone to download the BAND app and join these groups 🙂
- Please join the Studio-wide BAND here: https://band.us/n/aba6607526O3B
- If your dancer is in COMPANY, please join the Company BAND here: https://band.us/n/a4ac627b2aNdR (dancers can and should join, too!)
- If your dancer is in COMMUNITY TEAM, please join the CT BAND here: https://band.us/n/a7a9687a26O1J (dancers can and should join, too!)
- We’re still tweaking the settings and figuring out how to make this work for us in the best way, but I think this will be a nice way to communicate better to our families where you are 🙂
- Class-Specific Band App invitations have been emailed home to all recital classes! Check your email (or spam/junk folder if you haven’t seen it) for those links! Email us in the studio office or ask your instructor if you need the specific link for your class if you can’t find it in your inbox.
Studio Lobby & Lounge
How to get connected at The Pointe!
We ask that families limit lobby visitors to one parent per child if you’ll be waiting in the lobby during class. We also ask that families ONLY have food in the lounge, and that families pick up after they eat. We have wipes, paper towels, and a small broom/dustpan in the lounge so the space can stay nice and neat for the next group to use the space.
We love our studio community and truly believe we work with the best families in Cedar Rapids. We know that it takes a village to raise up awesome kids, and our studio community can be a part of your village. We have a private Facebook group just for studio families – click here, let us know the dancer you’re connected with, and we’ll add you to the group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1921735994748769 (you MUST answer the questions to be approved for the group) Please also join our studio-wide BAND app: https://band.us/n/aba6607526O3B (dancers can and should join, too!)
Attendance in class is crucial for dancers to learn and grow. We can only teach students who are in class 🙂 However, we know that things happen and kids may need to miss occasionally. To report an absence so your instructor knows what’s going on with your dancer, follow the steps in this 40-second video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nstwEOf7e58&list=PLZkeFgMt7mR63GMRqwjdoIM8-U1mxAx-3&index=2
Boutique & Front Desk Hours
We’re happy to help ! We catch up on studio voicemails, emails, and are available at the front desk from 4:30-7:00 Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 AM – Noon on Saturday mornings.
Students who are dressed for dance perform and progress better in class! Find out what your dancer needs for their classes and easily order online here: www.theturningpointeboutique.com
