The Pointe School of Dance has proudly served the Cedar Rapids community for over a decade, creating a space where dancers feel supported, inspired, and empowered.
We believe that great dancers are built from the inside out. That’s why we focus on developing leadership, confidence, and a love of dance alongside strong technical skills. Whether a student is taking their very first class or joining our teams, we are committed to helping them grow and achieve their goals both in and out of the studio.

DIRECTOR
Vanessa Terrell
Miss Vanessa is the founder and director of The Pointe School of Dance and has been teaching and mentoring dancers for over 15 years. Her award-winning choreography has earned multiple “Best Choreography” and “Judges’ Choice” honors, and she has worked with studios, schools, and performing groups throughout Iowa.
In addition to leading The Pointe, Vanessa is a competition judge, convention teacher, and speaker who coaches dance educators and studio owners on best practices in student safety and wellness, business management, and parent communication. She brings a current, industry-informed perspective into every aspect of the studio.
She is passionate about developing strong, confident dancers through high standards, age-appropriate artistry, and a deeply supportive environment where every child is known and valued. Vanessa is a Certified Coach with More Than Just Great Dancing® and YPAD Certified, reflecting her commitment to youth protection and safe, developmentally appropriate training.
Vanessa’s husband, Dan, is a high school band director at Linn-Mar High School. They have two kids, Ray and Emmy, who are dancers at the studio. When not at the studio, Vanessa enjoys marathon training, reading, and spending as much time with Ray and Emmy as she can.

STUDIO OPERATIONS MANAGER + INSTRUCTOR + COMPANY COACH
Laura Goeing
Miss Laura has been part of The Pointe since the very beginning and is a cornerstone of our team. She holds a degree in Dance from Southeast Missouri State University and brings extensive experience across all styles and age groups.
Laura is both a highly skilled instructor and the leader behind the studio’s daily operations. As Studio Operations Manager, she oversees scheduling, performances, and systems that ensure a seamless, organized experience for every family. Her consistency, attention to detail, and care for both students and staff are essential to the high standard families appreciate at The Pointe. Laura is also a dance mom - her son, Patrick, is a Company dancer.
She is YPAD and Acrobatic Arts Certified and has completed multiple advanced dance teacher training programs, reflecting her commitment to safe, high-quality instruction.
When not at the studio, Laura enjoys spending time with family and staying connected to the dance community.

STUDIO PROGRAMS MANAGER + INSTRUCTOR + COMPANY COACH
Demetra Chiafos
Miss Demetra brings exceptional depth of training and artistry to The Pointe. She holds a BFA in Dance from The Ohio State University, with a focus in Performance and Composition and Research Distinction, as well as a BA in Japanese. She also earned her MA in Japanese Translation from SOAS University of London while continuing to teach at the studio.
As Company Coordinator, Demetra leads and mentors our competitive dancers with a focus on both technical excellence and artistic growth. She teaches across all age groups and styles, bringing a thoughtful, highly educated approach to her work.
She is YPAD Certified and deeply committed to developing dancers who are both skilled and confident.
When not at the studio, Demetra enjoys continuing her language studies and engaging in creative and academic pursuits.

INSTRUCTOR
Annie Axeen
Miss Annie began dancing at The Pointe at age three and trained extensively through high school as part of our competition team. She has experience in all styles of dance and high school dance team, with a special love for tap and jazz.
Annie works as a behavioral associate at a local middle school and is currently attending Kirkwood Community College, with plans to pursue a career in education.
She brings an energetic, fun, and supportive presence into the classroom while encouraging dancers to work hard and reach their full potential.
When not at the studio, Annie enjoys reading and spending time with her friends and family.

INSTRUCTOR + COMPANY COACH
Grace Beaty
Miss Grace began dancing at The Pointe at age three and trained extensively through middle and high school as part of our competition team and technique programs. She continued her dance training throughout college.
Grace earned her AA from Kirkwood Community College and her bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Criminology, Law, and Justice from the University of Iowa. She continued her education at the University of Iowa, earning a master’s degree in Political Science in 2023 and a second master’s degree in Education Policy and Leadership, with a focus on Higher Education and Student Affairs, in 2025. She plans to pursue a doctorate in Education in the future.
Grace brings a thoughtful, encouraging presence into her classes and teaches a variety of styles, including hip hop, dance conditioning, and leveled technique classes. She also serves as a Company coach.
She is YPAD Certified, has completed More Than Just Great Dancing® Teacher Training, and recently earned her Acrobatic Arts certification.
Outside of the studio, Grace works at Kirkwood Community College as an academic advisor for the TRIO Math and Science program. She enjoys reading, sewing, and spending time with friends and family.

INSTRUCTOR
Kara Bullerman
Miss Kara is a versatile instructor who works with dancers of all ages and specializes in tap. She is known for her thoughtful teaching style and her commitment to helping each dancer grow with confidence.
In addition to teaching, Kara is an active leader in our studio community. She is a dance mom, serves as President of The Pointe Foundation Board, and is passionate about expanding access to dance in our area. Outside of the studio, she works as an attorney.
Kara is YPAD Certified and has completed More Than Just Great Dancing® Teacher Training.
When not at the studio, Kara enjoys spending time with her family and supporting community initiatives.

INSTRUCTOR + COMPANY COACH
Savanah Cosgrove
Miss Savanah grew up dancing at The Pointe and brings years of experience in all styles, with a special love for ballet and lyrical. As a student, she was a member of our competition team for six years and furthered her training through conventions and master classes.
She is known for her upbeat, engaging classes and her ability to build strong relationships with her students. Savanah enjoys teaching dancers across our programs and coaching Company students. Her positive energy creates an environment where dancers feel confident, supported, and excited to learn.
Savanah is CPR and YPAD Certified and has completed More Than Just Great Dancing® Teacher Training.
Outside of the studio, Savanah works as a pharmacy technician and operations manager. She enjoys relaxing at home with her cat, Gus Gus, spending time with her younger brother, and going on outdoor adventures.

INSTRUCTOR
Emme Glesner
Miss Emerson (Emme) began dancing at age three in Dubuque, where she trained through high school. During that time, she was a member of the competition team and gained early teaching experience by assisting with classes.
She is currently entering her second year in the nursing program at Kirkwood Community College and plans to pursue a career as a registered nurse.
Emme brings enthusiasm and dedication to The Pointe and is committed to continuing her own growth as a dance educator. She is passionate about creating a safe, positive environment where dancers feel supported as they learn and discover their love of dance.
When not at the studio or school, Emme enjoys hiking, spending time outdoors, line dancing, and being with her family and friends.

INSTRUCTOR
Sydney Gorak
Miss Sydney grew up dancing competitively in Illinois, developing a strong foundation across multiple styles. She gained early teaching experience as an assistant teacher at her home studio for several years and with a variety of age groups and styles.
She is currently a junior at the University of Iowa, where she is pursuing a degree in Dance and continuing to grow as both a performer and educator.
Sydney brings her collegiate training, enthusiasm, and love of dance into the classroom, creating a supportive environment where dancers can build their skills and confidence.

SERVICE TEAM
Emily Hildenbrand
Miss Emily has been a proud dance mom since her oldest daughter began dancing at The Pointe in 2010. Along the way, she began taking classes herself and even purchased her first pair of tap shoes at age 43. After volunteering around the studio for many years, Emily officially joined our team in 2025.
Emily creates a warm and welcoming experience for everyone who walks through the studio doors. She loves helping dancers and families feel at home, and her goal is to make sure everyone leaves the studio with a smile.
Emily and her husband live in Marion and enjoy traveling together. They have five children—three of whom have graduated—and four cats.
When not at the studio, Emily enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and building LEGO sets.

Taryn Hildenbrand
Miss Taryn began dancing at The Pointe at age six and trained extensively through high school as part of our competition team.
She earned her BA in Communication and Media from the University of Northern Iowa and currently works in the City of Marion’s Communications Department.
Taryn strives to create a positive, patient, and supportive environment in every class. She is YPAD Certified and has completed More Than Just Great Dancing® Teacher Training.
When not at the studio, Taryn enjoys spending time with her two cats, Walter and Edward.

INSTRUCTOR + COMPANY COACH
Christine Rippel
Miss Christine grew up dancing at The Pointe and has extensive training in all styles. She continued her dance education at the University of Iowa, taking a variety of classes through its dance program. Christine teaches dancers of all ages and styles, with a special love for ballet and jazz. She also serves as a Company coach, working closely with our competitive dancers.
Outside of the studio, Christine works as a Physical Therapist Assistant. She brings her advanced knowledge of injury prevention and the healthy development of athletes into every class she teaches.
Christine is YPAD, CPR, and First Aid Certified and has completed More Than Just Great Dancing® Teacher Training.
When not teaching or working, Christine enjoys spending time with her husband, son, and extended family. She also loves cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, reading, and golfing.

Claire Stevens
Miss Claire is a student at the University of Iowa studying Elementary Education with a minor in Dance. She trained and competed at The Pointe and was also involved in high school dance team and show choir, performing at national-level events.
She currently serves as a leader in the University of Iowa Dance Marathon, supporting children and families impacted by pediatric cancer.
Claire is passionate about working with children and helping young dancers build confidence while discovering a love for dance. She is YPAD Certified and has completed More Than Just Great Dancing® Teacher Training.
When not at the studio, Claire enjoys her work with Dance Marathon and spending time with friends and family.

Katie Terrell
Miss Katie is a valued member of both our teaching staff and service team, creating a welcoming and positive experience for every family she interacts with. She grew up dancing in Boone, Iowa, and continued her dance career at the University of Northern Iowa, performing with the International Dance Theatre.
At The Pointe, Katie teaches classes and coordinates our summer dance camps, bringing organization, creativity, and energy to each program. She also works as a behavioral associate in the Cedar Rapids Community School District, giving her a strong foundation in child development and student support.
Katie is YPAD Certified and has completed More Than Just Great Dancing® Teacher Training and Manager Training programs.
When not at the studio, Katie enjoys spending time with family and supporting the students she works with both in and out of the classroom.

INSTRUCTOR + SERVICE TEAM
Beth Tygart
Miss Beth has been teaching dance since 1992 and brings decades of experience to both our teaching and service teams. She trained in Omaha and continued dancing at the University of Iowa. Beth teaches dancers of all ages and styles, with a special passion for tap.
She holds a master’s degree in Health Promotion, a certificate in Aging Studies, and a minor in Music. Her musical background allows her to introduce students to a wide variety of genres and deepen their understanding of the connection between music and movement.
Beth is YPAD Certified and has completed More Than Just Great Dancing® Teacher Training and Manager Training.
Outside of the studio, Beth works as a real estate photographer and as part of the HawkVision crew, providing live video coverage for University of Iowa athletic events.
When not working, Beth enjoys spending time with her family and especially loves her newest role as a grandmother.

INSTRUCTOR
Denise Wedel
Miss Denise has extensive experience performing and teaching a wide range of styles, including ballroom and Latin dance. She leads our Chance to Dance program, which provides meaningful dance opportunities for students with special needs.
Her work reflects a deep commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and ensuring every child has the opportunity to experience the joy of dance.
Denise is also a paraeducator supporting students with special needs, bringing additional expertise and compassion into her teaching. She is YPAD Certified and has completed More Than Just Great Dancing® Teacher Training.
When not at the studio, Denise enjoys supporting her students and spending time in her community.

INSTRUCTOR
Kenzie Zeien
Miss Kenzie began dancing at The Pointe at age four and trained extensively through high school as part of our Company program.
She earned her BA in Psychology from the University of Northern Iowa and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Iowa. While at UNI, Kenzie performed with Orchesis Dance Company and choreographed multiple pieces for its productions. She also spent four years with the Panther Marching Band Colorguard, serving as captain for two years and choreographing halftime performances while leading the team.
Kenzie brings encouragement, creativity, and passion into her classes, creating a supportive environment where dancers feel encouraged as they learn and grow.
When not at the studio, Kenzie enjoys crafting, attending concerts, and spending time with friends and family.

We are a proud More Than Just Great Dancing studio. The Pointe School of Dance is Cedar Rapids only MTJGD-affiliated studio. This organization comprises the nation’s best dance studios and adheres to the highest standards in curriculum quality, business management practices, and community involvement.
The Pointe School of Dance is also Iowa’s first YPAD Certified dance studio. This certification ensures that dancers who take classes at The Pointe are in a safe, healthy, and positive environment. This mission is incredibly important to us here at The Pointe. ALL of our staff who work with kids are CPR-certified, background-checked, and YPAD-certified.
